Whenever you have hierarchical lists or outlines, you can use list-style-type on the "ol" element used to contain each list. This can give you the ability to designate different levels of a document with different types of characters. For example:

    1. Section 1
      1. Sub-section 1
        1. Paragraph 1
        2. Paragraph 2
        3. Paragraph 3
      2. Sub-section 2
        1. Paragraph 1
